Horten Ho 229 /953 PCS. - COBI 5757
The Horten Ho 229 was the prototype of a single-wing aircraft designed by the brothers Reimar and Walter Horton at the end of the Second World War, which would have brought the single-wing aircraft concept into the new jet age. Since the originally planned BMW reactors were not available, the already proven Junkers-Jumo-004 reactors were used, which led to a significant conversion of the central body. The Junkers-Jumo-004 was the world's first turbojet engine ready for series production. The first official flight of the prototype, with Erwin Ziller as pilot, took place on 2 February 1945 and proved to be largely satisfactory. However, during the last test flight, an engine failure caused the aircraft to crash. Ziller was fatally injured. Despite this accident, 40 devices were ordered. They were never produced, because about two months later, on 14 April 1945, American troops reached the production site in Friedrichroda. Model with 953 pieces, 1
