At the end of the 1960s the need arose to repatriate the training of military pilots from Western Europe to Europe. At the same time, both in France and in Germany, the old models of light huntbubeders had to be replaced. This is how the joint project of the two countries was born, which in the end was assigned to Dassault Aviation and Dornier. On October 26, 1973 the first prototype of the ALPHA JET took off the French heroodrome of Istres for a test flight. After a two -year test phase, in 1975 the series production of the Bimotore and the light huntbombardiere began in 1975. Even Dassault, in particular, pushed for the export of the plane, but with an added value in terms of combativeness, more powerful engines and ability to transport modern weapons such as air-air missiles for self-defense. However, in the 1980s, despite several improvement projects, orders ceased and production was interrupted. In the autumn of 1980, the Patrouille de France chose the Alpha Jet to replace the Fouga Magister in its acrobatic missions. It is also piloted by its Portuguese counterpart, the Asas de Portugal.
