The Panavia 200 Tornado is a twin-engine rotary-wing multipurpose combat aircraft designed and built by the international arms company Panavia Aircraft GmbH, based near Munich. Panavia was created on 26 March 1969 by a multinational consortium now consisting of the British company BAE Systems plc, the German company Airbus Defence & Space and the Italian company Leonardo SpA. The new MRCA (Multi-Role-Combat -Aircraft) was to be capable of being used for both conventional and nuclear air strikes, for aerial reconnaissance and in the conduct of naval warfare, and meet high requirements such as very low-altitude flight, all-weather capability, high weapon accuracy, high self-protection ability and day/night use. The first flight took place on 14 August 1974, in 1979 series production began and in 1982 the equipment of intervention units in Great Britain and Germany followed. Italy and Saudi Arabia, an export customer, followed later. RAF version model, with 520 pieces, 2
